Jamie started wheelchair racing at the age of 14 after a Parallel Success day at The Castle School in Taunton, Somerset. He enjoyed it so much he joined a club, Yeovil Olympiads, and took to it immediately thanks to the encouragement of his Coach Jen Slade. Jamie was initially classified as a T33 and rose quickly through the rankings, representing Great Britain in the Brazilian School Games when he was 16. Jamie came home with 3 gold medals in the 100m, 400m and 1500m. He became 2nd in the UK in the 100m on the Power of 10. When Jamie was 17 he was internationally classified in Dubai, and subsequently became a T34. This did not deter him however and he has been climbing his way back up the rankings since. He said 'I'm still going to get the top, its just going to take a bit longer'. He joined the prestigious Weir Archer Academy in Surrey after his trip to Dubai when he was 17 and left Somerset at 18 to train full time. He is now coached by Jenny Archer MBE. Whilst not training Jamie has a keen interest in computing, building his first computer at the age of 14. He left Richard Huish College with a triple Distinction in a BTEC Extended Diploma in I.T. He was also selected by British Athletics to do the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence which is only available to elite athletes. (Photo credit: Peter Milsom)
