Montell first appeared in national rankings as a promising U15 high jumper. She then showed great promise as a sprinter, taking medals at English Schools and AAA age group championships. She made her senior debut in 2007 at the European Indoor Championships, making the semi-finals of the 60m.
At the 2007 European U23 Championships, Douglas smashed her lifetime best in the 100m, lowering it from 11.51 to 11.28, where she won the silver medal, as well as finishing seventh in the 200m. Douglas qualified for the World Championships, making the quarter-final in the 100m, before finishing fourth in the 4x100m relay.
In 2008, Douglas finished second at the Olympic Trials, before smashing Kathy Cook’s long-standing national 100m record in Loughborough, running 11.05, which sealed selection for the Olympic Games. Douglas completed 2 rounds out of 4 at the Games exiting in the quarter-finals and made the 4x100m Final. Fighting injury in 2009 she struggled to find her 2008 form but still managed to take the bronze medal at the Aviva World Championships Trials over 100m. Following the injury, Douglas suffered career-threatening surgery at the the end of 2009 but qualified for the 2010 England team finishing fifth in the semi-final over 100m in the Commonwealth Games in Delhi and becoming Commonwealth Champion as part of the victorious 4x100m relay squad.
As well as a promising sprinter she is a talented street dancer and a qualified silver service waitress.
