Hazel was a Gold medallist on her Paralympics debut in Sydney, missing out on a medal in the 200 metres when she was disqualified in the final for running out of lane. She was a double silver medallist in Athens, where winner, China’s Wang Fang set world records in both sprints.
Hazel is one of the most decorated athletes in the British team, winning countless championship medals at Paralympic, World and European level since winning a 400m silver and 100m bronze at the 1998 World Championships. She maintained her incredible sequence by winning bronze in both the 100m and 200m at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics.
She also used to take part in swimming and horse riding, but decided to concentrate on athletics as this was her forte.
