Tim was a talented junior who won his first national title indoors in 1997 over 200m in the U17 iage group. while still only 14. Originally a 200m specialist he stepped up to 400m in 2001 and won the European Junior title in only his fourth race over the distance. He was helped by having Roger Black as a mentor as he established himself as Britain’s top 400m runner in 2004. His biggest career breakthrough came in 2005 when he broke the 45-second barrier to win at the London Grand Prix over Olympic champion Jeremy Wariner in 44.75. His training was badly affected by sinusitis in 2008 and it ultimately led to him curtailing his season.
