Johanna has made rapid progress since taking up race walking in 2002 winning a bronze medal at the English Schools championships after just six weeks training. As an U20 she finished 12th in the 2004 National cross country championships before making huge improvements that year as a walker.

The British no.1 set a 3000m walk national record of 12:40.98 at the Inter-Counties in Bedford in 2008, before placing 22nd in the Olympic Games in a 20km-walk record of 1:31:33.

Jackson has spent the last two winters in Australia and Jo has been reaping the benefits. The Redcar athlete started the 2009 season superbly, setting two British 5000m walk records, including an early season world-leading mark of 20:46.58 and then set a British 20km walk record of 1:31:16 in Lugano, which was qualified her for the World Championships in Berlin. Unfortunately for her, she was disqualified in her race. In 2010 she lowered the British record again with a 90:41 clocking before finishing in a fine 10th place at the European Championships before going on to claim the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.

Jo's sporting hero is Paula Radcliffe and has said that she would like to try a marathon one day.
